Real Madrid - Málaga

On Sunday, August 30, 2026, the second match of my Madrid trip in August is scheduled. This time, newly promoted Málaga is the opponent. The big question: can Real Madrid make it nine points from their first three matches?

Around 12:30, I head out from my hotel toward the stadium. On the way, I walk past a Sunday market where locals are buying their fresh fruits and vegetables. It’s already blazing hot—the temperature is hitting 30 degrees Celsius, and there isn’t a cloud in the sky. In 40 minutes, I reach the stadium. The first thing that catches my eye is the huge crowd of Málaga supporters, already singing loudly for their club in groups. Once again, I stroll past all the merchandise stalls. Naturally, they’re selling the exact same items as they did at Wednesday’s match, but it’s still fun to browse.

I also drop by the official team store, the Tienda Real Madrid, where easily a thousand people are walking around inside. What a money printer that place is! Fun fact: Espi’s shirt printing is already completely sold out—that’s how popular the tall Spaniard has become after scoring the winning goal on opening day. I grab a small, freshly poured beer and spend a moment in the sun enjoying the view of all the Madridistas wearing jerseys, mostly Mbappé’s.

The team bus has arrived by now, which means it’s time to head inside. Once again, I’m sitting in section 118, directly behind the goal, on row 5. It never stops being surreal to see the players from so close up—especially when you can read the expressions on their faces.

At 17:00, we kick off in a scorching hot Bernabéu; a trip to the sauna has nothing on this. Real Madrid starts the match fantastically, and within half an hour, we’re already 3-0 up. Just how a match against a bottom-half team should go. The goalscorers are Jude Bellingham (twice) and Kylian Mbappé. After that, they take their foot off the gas a bit. To top off the afternoon in style, Arda Güler makes it 4-0.

With that, the question from the beginning is answered with a convincing yes. A perfect start to the season, paired with an improving style of play that’s genuinely entertaining to watch. I’m curious to see how our boys do when we face a serious contender, but for now, I’m more than satisfied. José Mourinho really has things under control.
